Instructions for UMMC House Officers in the First Year of Training at UMMC

Completion of the Excellent Teacher course is mandatory for all School of Medicine house officers in their first year of residency/fellowship training at UMMC. The Excellent Teacher course is made up of various modules, activities and evaluations related to resident teaching, and the course is offered through Canvas. All residents and fellows in their first year of training at UMMC are automatically enrolled in the Excellent Teacher course and do not need to register. The office of Graduate Medical Education will be notified about those house officers who successfully complete the course.

To complete the course, follow the steps listed below.

1. Log into Canvas using your UMMC username and password.
2. Click on Courses, and click on the Excellent Teacher course. Familiarize yourself with the Excellent Teacher course, and click on Modules to begin.
3. Click on the first item, and proceed through the modules until all are complete. Note: You may log in and out of Canvas, completing the modules at your own pace and convenience.
4. Click on Grades to ensure that you have received credit for all assignments.
5. The office of Graduate Medical Education will be notified of your completion of the course.
